Pioneer Baptist church was originally the Citrus Heights Friends (Quaker) church, and the first church built in Citrus Heights! Much of it's original structure remains. It first started in 1914 when Walter and Gertrude Leonard and their eight children arrived in Citrus Heights from Oklahoma. In 1919 the Friends purchased the Old Auburn Road site and built their meeting house. In 1975 the Friends moved to larger facilities and sold its original property to the Pioneer Baptist Church. The worship service has probably not changed much since it was first built, as Pioneer Baptist Church continues singing with traditional Hymn books, piano and organ music - it's like stepping back in time. Upholding the festive tradition of dressing up as pioneers, the pictures on the right show members and friends celebrating the 36th anniversary with lots of great food, friendship and fun. |
